Short answer
Compare three options before you arrive: the nearest city garage (simple, about 2,000 kr a night, open 7:00–24:00), the hotel's own deal (if it has one), and a legal P3 street space a few minutes away (often free overnight and at weekends). One night with bags: garage. Several nights: street.
Your three options
How to decide
🧳 One night, late arrival, luggage
The garage. You're paying for simplicity, not just a space — especially in bad weather. Check you won't need the car before 7:00.
📅 Two nights or more
If the car will barely move, a P3 street space saves real money. Over three nights the difference can pass 5,000 kr.
If your hotel is near Harpa or the harbour, the Kolaport garage is the natural choice. Near Laugavegur or Hverfisgata, look at Stjörnuport or Vitatorg — they're in the cheaper price group. All garages and prices.
Before you book
The easiest fix is to choose a hotel with its own parking. Hotels just outside the 101 postcode often include it for free, and the walk or bus into the center is short. If you're booking downtown, check whether parking is included, how much it costs, and whether you need to reserve a space.
