Short answer
A legal street space is usually free overnight — you only pay from 8:00 or 9:00 the next morning, and not at all at weekends in P3 and P4. A garage charges every hour (about 2,000 kr for a night) and is only open 7:00–24:00.
Street vs garage for one night
| Weeknight, 20:00 → 10:00 | Cost |
|---|---|
| P3 street (pay 9:00–10:00) | 240 kr |
| P2 street (pay 20:00–21:00 and 9:00–10:00) | 480 kr |
| P1 street (pay 20:00–21:00 and 9:00–10:00) | 1 320 kr |
| Garage, 190/140 group (14 h) | 2 010 kr |
| Garage, 280/150 group (14 h) | 2 230 kr |

When the garage is still worth it
🧳 One night, luggage, bad weather
Pulling straight into a covered garage next to your hotel can be worth 2,000 kr. Just check you won't need the car before 7:00.
🌙 Several nights, car barely moves
A legal street space is far cheaper. Pay the morning hours with an app, or move the car to a P3 street.
The morning catch
Free overnight parking ends when the paid hours start again: 8:00 in P4, 9:00 in P1, P2 and P3 on weekdays, 10:00 in P1 and P2 at weekends. Most overnight fines happen because the car is still there at 9:30 with no ticket. Set an alarm, or start a session in your parking app before breakfast. A missed session costs 4,500 kr. How fines work.
Checks before you leave the car
- Read the sign: some spaces are for residents with a permit, loading only, or have their own time limits.
- P1 has a 3-hour maximum during paid hours — don't leave a car there overnight and forget it.
- Garages: open 7:00–24:00. The city plans to open them around the clock; the date hasn't been announced. 2026 changes.
- Campervans: you may park where cars can park, but sleeping in the vehicle on city streets isn't allowed. Campervan guide.
