Short answer
For most Harpa visits, use the Kolaport garage: three minutes on foot, 280 kr for the first hour and 150 kr after that — cheaper than P1 street parking. If you want to pay less for a long stay or don't mind a 10–12 minute walk, try Mýrargata or Grandagarður toward Grandi.
Your options, in order
Harpa also has its own underground car park, run separately from the city garages. Prices and opening hours are posted at the entrance.
Why the garage wins near Harpa
The streets right around Harpa sit in the most expensive part of downtown. A two-hour visit on a P1 street costs 1,320 kr; the same two hours in Kolaport cost 430 kr. Add the shelter from wind and rain, and the garage is the easy call for a concert, a meal at the harbour or an arrival with luggage.
✅ Take Kolaport if…
You're going to a concert, a restaurant or the harbour for a few hours, or it's raining sideways.
🚶 Walk from Grandi if…
You're spending most of the day around the Old Harbour and Grandi anyway — park there and walk.
Parking near Harpa for an evening concert
Street zones stop charging when their paid hours end: 21:00 for P1 and P2, 18:00 for P3. If your concert starts at 19:30, a P3 street space costs nothing, while a garage keeps charging every hour. Two things to check before you choose the garage:
- Closing time: city garages are open until 24:00. If the show ends late and you go out afterwards, make sure you'll be back before midnight.
- Total hours: a 4-hour evening in Kolaport costs about 730 kr — still modest, but a free street space is free.
